NV College has had some wonderful students through our college, over our ten years in existence. Storm Whalen and Amy Morris are both students who found traineeships through NV College and would recommend the course.
Storm had decided on a career in nursing at university, however her family situation changed suddenly with her mother’s health, so she needed something closer to home and more flexible.
She has now graduated with a Certificate III in Individual Support. She completed her traineeship at a local aged care facility, and was able to earn an income at the same time as learning, working hours that fit well with her family’s needs.
‘The aged care facility I’m working at is understanding and encouraging. I want to start my nursing qualifications next year and they are happy to support me in furthering my studies. The Certificate in Individual Support has been a great stepping stone for me, confirming my interest in this profession of caring,’ said Storm.
Amy Morris has started training for her Certificate III in Individual Support and is training at a local aged care facility too. Prior to this traineeship she’d worked in construction for five years.
When asked what she likes about the traineeship she said,
‘The residents, that every day is a bit different and after my previous job, I said I would never do a role where I didn’t enjoy myself. I like my work now.’
Care Ready, is NV College’s pre-employment short course, which prepares our students for what a career in care might look like for them with hands on work experience included.
For those who complete the Care Ready course and are interested in pursuing a career in care and the Certificate III in Individual Support, NV College arranges interviews with potential local aged care businesses, where students can complete their traineeships, enabling them to learn and also earn at the same time.
If you’ve ever considered a career in care, or a traineeship in care, our next Care Ready course, commences in Macksville on the 3rd December. The course will run over six days across two weeks.
NV College have a limited number of subsidised places remaining so get in contact today to express your interest.
