Mandatory care minutes welcomed

Registered Nurses and Care Service Employees have continued great care this month, meeting the new, mandatory care minutes targets and upskilling.

NVC Group Executive Care Manager Moriah Resurreccion said she wanted to thank her clinical care teams in NVC Group’s three aged care homes for being diligent to adhere to the Australian Government’s new regulatory requirements.

“Our organisation has welcomed the Government’s mandatory care minutes of 200 minutes per resident, per day, for each approved Australian aged care provider, as it will help to deliver better care to elderly people,” she said.

“The clinical teams I lead at NVC Group’s aged care homes, Riverside Gardens in Nambucca Heads, Autumn Lodge in Macksville, and Cedar Place in Kempsey, have met and exceeded these care minute targets, while also participating in a Pharmacy Outreach Program.

“I would like to thank both my staff and the Australian Government for providing the great upskilling opportunity through the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission last week.”

The Australian Government Pharmacy Outreach Program, RedUSe, reducing use of sedatives, outlined the latest best practice information on restricted drugs use in aged care homes.

Program topics covered included:

  • Old age mental health experiences
  • Sedative medications – weighing up the benefits and risks
  • Non-drug management of changed behaviour
  • A comparison of the use of restricted drugs by different aged care providers in Australia.
